Species Name: Syohar
Classification: Sentient, limited hive-mind telepathy
Planet of Origin: Shrd'lu (Kn'yas 3)
Approximate height: 6 to 7 feet

Notes
The Syohar are a race past the point in their racial development where physical needs outweigh intellectual pursuits. As such, the forebrain is twice the size of most other sentient species. This allows the Syohar incredible memory, perception and intelligence. This species also exhibits a high degree of psychic ability, bordering on the supernatural. Levitation is a universal skill, and allows for a rapid hovering gait. Thoughts and ideas are apparently transmitted between nearby individual Syohar at will, offering them unprecedented scientific prowess. Their original legs, however, have atrophied from millenia of disuse, and are now virtually useless.

The evolutionary history of the Syohar is also cause for fascination. While many species in the Galaxy are the result of divergent evolution, the Syohar are unique in being the only known species to be the result of convergent evolution, whereby two species' DNA is mixed over generations until the two races are indistinguishable. This apparently stems from the nature of one of their predecessors: a form of parasitic tree-squid that selected a host and implanted a seedling in the base of the creature's brain, where it would collect genetic information from its host and slowly develop into an egg, using the host's head as raw materials. Thankfully, the Syohar's reproduction is in no way similar to this ghastly process.

Despite the parasitic and predatory nature of their progenitors, the Syohar are a friendly and empathic race, and are warm and welcoming to strangers. It is, however, inadvisable to anger one, as they can be violent should the need arise.

Yeah, it's the aliens from Broadside, and I figured you deserved a look at them since they've been kicking around this desolate wasteland I call a skull for a couple of years ago. Feel free to ask your probing little questions, my lovelies.

Note: The face-tentacles (or "facetacles", if you will) are nothing to do with Cthulhu or the Ood or anything like that. The design is entirely independent of anthing else.

I am truly sorry for taking so much time to actually comment on this... Problems and bureaucracies of my beloved country.
Anyway, this is a nice concept and design. I like the way he can communicate and move. Also, and perhaps that's my favourite part, I like how you didn't made him a high form of existence, I like the way you put into account that somethings must be discarded to gain new abilities that are more suited for the being's needs.
There isn't much I could say, it is definitely an intriguing species. And I am blown away by how much thought you seem to have put into it.
Great work.

It's not so much thought, more a sort of "wouldn't it be cool if...". But thanks anyway!

Then, your "wouldn't it be cool if..." are quite effective. The way I see it it would and it is quite cool indeed. You're welcome.
